Started his scientific career in weed science at Shihezi Agricultural College in 1982, did my M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Weed Science under supervision of Dr. Clive E. Price and Prof. Graham A. Matthews at Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London University, UK. After having completed my studies, he came back China in early 1995, started working at Institute of Plant Protection (IPP), Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), was promoted as Associate Professor in the same year, and promoted as full Professor in early 2002.

He was elected and nominated as Deputy General Director of the Institute from June 1999-December 2003, he is currently the President of Weed Science Society of China, and one of the editorial member of “ACTA Phytophylacica Sinica”, “Journal of Plant Protection”, “Pesticides”, “Technology and Extension of Plant Protection”, and international scientific journal, “Crop Protection”, and International Advisory Board Member of “Outlooks on Pest Management”. He chaired both the Ninth and Tenth 5-Year Plan projects, National Key Technology R & D Programme, for Integrated Weed Management in five major crops and sustainable weed and rodent management in crops and forestry (96-005-01-05 and 2001BA509B07, 2004BA509B07), and projects from both NSFC (39770503 and 39970491). He is chairing the Eleventh 5-Year Plan National Scientific Supporting Project, New Techenologies for Worst Weed Management in Major Crops (2006BAD08A09). He has published over 70 scientific papers and edited 2 books in Weed Science field.

In these years, he attended 4 FAO Regional Workshops, and co-organized 1 of them; attended the 3rd, 4th and 5th International Weed Science Congresses; organized and conducted the 18th Asian Pacific Weed Science Conference in 2001; organized and conducted the 7th and 8th National Weed Science Conferences in 2004 and 2008.
