He was the President of Weed Science Society of China from 1990-2002.

He graduated from College of Agriculture, Private University of Nanking in 1949 and has successively held the posts of the member of the Second Academic Committee of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Vice-Chairman for China Society of Plant Protection, Director for Weed Science of China, CSPP, Chairman for Beijing Pesticide Society, Vice-Chairman for the Pesticide Society of China Chemical Industry Society，member of Executive Committee of 13th and 14th Asian-Pacific Weed Science Society, president for the 18th Asian-Pacific Weed Science Society and the Organizing Committee of 18th Asian-Pacific Weed Science Society Conference. And now he is a member of the standing council of China Society of Plant Protection, the member of Executive Committee of 19th Asian-Pacific Weed Science Society, and editor for "Weed Biology and Management" Journal。
Since 1950, he worked successively at North China Agricultural Research Institute, Institute of Plant Protection of CAAS, Department of Scientific Research Administration of CAAS, Analytical and Testing Center of CAAS, Institute of Feed Research and National Feed Quality Supervision and Test Center. Over the past fifty years, he was engaged with scientific research work in the field of plant protection related to pesticide bioassay technique, pesticide evaluation, toxicology, pesticide formulation and pesticide application as well as agricultural integrated weed management. He had already sponsored nationwide scale work for pesticide field trial and demonstration and agricultural chemical weed control for 17 years. During the late1980s, he took charge of sponsoring a task of national technological item for tackling key problem “Study on Integrated Field Weed and Rat Management” and held a current sponsor for the subaltern special topic of same item “Study on Integrated Field Weed Management”.

He devoted himself to work for the development and progress on integrated weed management in main crops as rice, wheat, cotton and soybeans as well as to developing the scientific studies on pesticide application and weed science and also through organizing pesticide field trials and demonstration to introduce new kinds of pesticides into China for promoting Chinese field pest and weed chemical control.
He has published more than 140 technological papers and held the posts of an editor-in-chief for a fascicle of "Chinese Agricultural Encyclopedia - Pesticide Volume", editor-in-chiefs for "Weed Science Journal" and "Chinese Colored Weed Illustrated Book". The books as "Insecticide and Fungicide Bioassay"、"Insecticides"、and "Biometry for Bioassay" are his main writings.
